ZI-CHAR @ HAI SENG, SONG KHENG HAI GROUND FOOD & RECREATIONAL CENTRE, KUCHING

This has got to be one of the cheapest eateries that provides à la carte home-cooked meal. Once I paid RM11 for a 3 dish meal, inclusive of 3 plates of rice. For a price this cheap, it beats eating pre-cooked meals.

It's best if you approach the stall, and check out what vegetables, meat and seafood are available for the day, and have the lady recommends how best to cook them. Although the range is limited in this small outfit, if you push the right button, you'd be surprised at the food delivered to your table. I've picked up a trick or two from this place.

There are lots of drinks and snacks to choose from the surrounding stores, like Rojak, Ju-Hu-Eng Chai, Chendol and the likes. There is ample parking, and if you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of a pudgy guy in a Clark Kent's persona sauntering along the back lanes; he'd like to call himself "Kenny Sia". I think the moniker "Ah-Sia-K'nia" (son of Sia) fits him better.

This place closes around eight or even earlier, ie. when it runs out of food or rice. Tuesday is rest day.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

As the name implies, it's all about nothing! Kongkaying is like grasping in the air - more like hot air with occasional fartulence. Hopefully, something aromatic will come out of it! If not...
