DIM-SUM @ SHANGHAI JAIREN CAFÉ, LORONG TUN AHMAD ZAIDI ADRUCE 12 , KUCHING

Drunken Chicken

This eatery isn't exactly new in a sense, although it's just opened at the Bormill area, in one of the new shop lots (opposite Bormill Café). There seemed to be a tinge of familiarity once I noticed the Mainland Chinese lady; she's the lady who once ran the Chinese dim-sum stall at King's Centre. So there's a ring of familiarity to the food served. It doesn't have a wide range in the menu as a dim-sum place would have, but suffice; it can be best summed up as dim-sum snacks, plus noodle or rice one-plater (one recipe for either rice or noodle). One consolation is that pork is served here.

One big difference between this place at its last eatery is the ambiance the place exudes; this is certainly a step up from the coffee shop setting. Whatever it is, with its proper china wares, the food looks better or even tastes better, even though the cooks and the auxiliary staff are the same ones preparing and cooking the food. Presentation does play on our perception of how food tastes in some ways.

Sweet Bun

Crispy Fried Celery Wonton

Cabbage Filled Dumpling Soup

Siao Lun Bao (Little Dragon Bun)

Shanghai Fried Dumplings
Overall, the fare is quite good - a notch up from ones you get in most coffee shops, and its price is not as scary as the ones at dim-sum restaurants. It has been in operations for quite some weeks now, and most the items stated are in place, and they serve the full gauntlet the whole day through.

These ones look good ( the dim sum, specially the buns).
Is it the shop along "Jalan Keretapi"??

it's off jln. keratapi, second turning after shell gas station from town. i think it's opposite nitt school or the chinese furniture shop at the corner.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

As the name implies, it's all about nothing! Kongkaying is like grasping in the air - more like hot air with occasional fartulence. Hopefully, something aromatic will come out of it! If not...
