PORRIDGE @ TAIWAN SIOU JOU, JALAN PADUNGAN, KUCHING

Steamed Minced Pork (RM2 Per Slab)

This is the breakaway shop that started life further down the road in its early days; it had a swankier setup with porridge stored in earthen wares then. It was quite a costly affair to have one of those porridge with its accompaniments. After the fad, business wanned, but still it soldiered on, until it reinvented itself in its new guise - el-cheapo.

As the name suggests, the Taiwan porridge comes with a chunk of sweet potato (left). It costs a mere 80 sen (¢). Its food items range from RM1 for vegetables to RM2 for meat for single person serving. The vegetables below were for 2 persons. Excluding drinks the food we had came under RM10. The food is freshly cooked and replenished regularly as its turnover is rather fast. Its quality is no different from its early days; the
business thrives on volume.

Sauteed Sweet Potato Leaves (RM1.50)

Preserved Salted Vegetable (RM1.50)

Come in before 7 in the evening to beat the crowd. It closes on Monday. In contrast, as its name implies, rice is served here as well.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

As the name implies, it's all about nothing! Kongkaying is like grasping in the air - more like hot air with occasional fartulence. Hopefully, something aromatic will come out of it! If not...
