This is the last of the Subang Jaya eateries' blog until the next time. It's been a good one week roughing out as a "freshie" - so to say. It's been a walk in the park for me, but for the rest of the students it means missing home for another few months or years.

Yes, it's yet another treat from Big Me, whose place is just around the corner from this restaurant. It's on the first floor of a shop house in the midst of Chinese eats. Despite its obscure locale, there seem to be a lot of people in the know...

SOMEWHERE IN SS15, SUBANG JAYA

And now, the continuing story of my K.L. odyssey... it's way past 1 p.m. when I get a call for lunch, and I'm down at my friend's office in a jiffy. He suggests a noodle shop that is 2 blocks away. However, there is a lunch queue at its entrance, so we venture further down the street to a coffee shop that has a couple of stalls selling roast meat rice, lok-lok and noodle. It's not packed, but a few tables of customers are still waiting for their food, which makes it look like a busy, busy place. However, that's not the case. We both opted for the noodle, which seems to be what most people waiting for their food are having as well. What's so special of its noodle, you might ask?

Is this patriotism or what? It seems you don't need Mederka day to come around to flutter your flag and display your loyalty. Whatever the case here, the smart getup is an added bonus to an already spiffy setup - from its sparkling clean food showcase to its freshly cooked, appetizingly looking curries. However, you don't need to wear your colors to enjoy whatever they have to offer...

BAK KUT TEH SUPPER @ RESTORAN T.T.K., 1, JLN. PANDAN 8/6, PANDAN JAYA, CHERAS, K.L.

What can you say when someone is determined to give you a treat you even when you've just finished dinner? Go with the flow and accept a supper instead. So after nine, my friend spins around to pick us up; he says, we are gonna for a 25 minutes drive to this Bak Kut Teh place, which was formerly at Pudu, where his former office was. So a drive through the highway to the middle of nowhere, there is this lone corner shop with a bright sign with a photo of a claypot indicating its very existence.

I guess this is the most popular eatery for students, with its proximity to the 3 colleges. And it's the biggest food court at this realm serving almost every street food imaginable. One can go the whole nine yards at each and different stalls everyday and still come out refreshed; some pass the mustard, while others are pedestrian fares. Be prepared to fork out RM7 or more for each meal, inclusive of drink. As you can gather from the photos, I've been here more than a couple of times ; just a breakfast and 2 dinners...

DINNER WITH THE CHOWS @ RESTORAN OVERSEAS , SUBANG PARADE, SELANGOR

The Chows (sister and brother) formerly from Penang are former college mates in Connecticut. The brother shares the same name and surname as moi. The sister's son and daughter-in-law are there with their 2 kids. The last time I saw the son, he was one year older than his eldest son.'s age. It's been that long! Knowing my friend, this is his favourite restaurant. He has brought me to the ones at Imbi, Central Market, PJ, and this is my second time here. As everyone is famished, coming here straight from the office, a quickie of roast piglet and Char-Sui (above) is ordered. Guess what?

LUNCH @ PAPPARICH, JALAN SS 15/7, SUBANG JAYA, SELANGOR

Like the name says, either one has a father who is rich to start the franchise, or you need rich papa to be a franchise holder; either way, both sound plausible. However, you don't have to be very rich to eat here. The prices are almost comparable to those found on this campus suburb, where the price starts from RM5 onwards (Sarawakians find this prohibitive for street food). The whole area feels like it's on a second tin-rush, whereas the only commodity found is the students parents' cash; and they sure know how to wring them dry - from schools, books, food and accommodation.
